The inclusion of a ”gender dimension” with regard to the conception, objectives and methodology is now mandatory when relevant for a research project to be funded by the European Commission under Framework Program 6.

Objectives

To develop a training sessions and a training manual on the inclusion of the gender dimension into FP6 proposals that will ensure awareness of gender issues and their relevance to and impact on research.

The WP leader will collect information on sources available on the inclusion of gender dimension into FP6 and into other programmes. Once such data is collected, the documents will be analysed and a report will be prepared on how to include the gender dimension into FP6 proposals. Contact points will ensure further dissemination of the manual in their respective countries.

There will be an initial training for multipliers from each CEC-WYS country. At the training, multipliers will learn:

• what is gender and the distinction between sex and gender

• the history of gender sensitivity building on the European level in R&D

• the challenges of FP6 in connection with the introduction of the gender dimension

• how to identify a gender dimension in a research project

• to identify tools to address the gender dimension in a research project satisfactorily.

Furthermore, multipliers will receive European Commission’s documentation and guides concerning the introduction of gender dimension in FP6 instruments and a printout of the training manual in English.
