Women have to work about 53 days longer than men to receive the same salary per year like men in Europe. And in Slovakia it is even more. This finding has been published recently by EUROSTAT.

The project entitled Supporting talented young scientists and postgraduate students has been launched in 2003 under the Slovak Ministry for Education scheme called State programme for promoting science and development. Within this programme an interesting project has been granted under the title Identity and its transformation in historical and contemporary context in Slovakia respectively integration process.

The CEU Gender Studies Department will be hosting the annual meetings for the European Network for Women’s Studies, ATHENA III, from June 2-3, 2007. There will be a pre-session workshop on June 1 that is open to the public.

On May 17-18, 2007 Gender Symposium will be held under title "Gender, Empire, and Politics of Central and Eastern Europe". The symposium is organized together with Duke University and Washington University.

The Clare Boothe Luce program provides grants for undegraduate scholarships for women studying science, engineering, and mathematics. The Program was founded by Clare Boothe Luce. She was a playwright, journalistt, U.S. Ambassador to Italy, and the first woman elected to Congress from Connecticut. She realized that many women face obstacles in their chosen professions. In her bequest, she sought to encourage women to enter study, graduate, and teach science and mathematics.

The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), adopted in 1979 by the UN General Assembly, is often described as an international bill of rights for women. Consisting of a preamble and 30 articles, it defines what constitutes discrimination against w14-Dec-2006 end such discrimination.
