Central Europen Centre for Women and Youth in Science

The scheme is designed to support researchers at the stage at which they are starting their first research team or, depending on the field, establishing their independent research programme. Its main function will be to provide ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grants to support the creation of independent and excellent new individual research teams and to strengthen others that have been recently created. The ERC Starting Independent Researcher Grant will be designed to ensure that the grant is open to investigators who are working, or intend to work in any part of the EU and associated countries and are in the position of starting their first independent research team. Applicants should be less than 10 years from the award of their PhD.


The EUROCORES Committee and the ESF (European Science Foundation) Standing Committees have selected another seven theme proposals to be developed further into EUROCORES programmes (16/10/2006). EUROCORES work towards promoting and coordinating innovative research spanning across the whole of the scientific field. There are already 23 active EUROCORES programmes coordinating cross-disciplinary collaboration and ground breaking scientific progress.


Preparatory workshops with representatives from National Funding and Research Performing Organisations will be held for all seven theme proposals  20- 29 November 2006 in Brussels. If succesful, an open Call for project proposals will be held in March 2007.


The IAS-STS in Graz, Austria, promotes the interdisciplinary investigation of the links and interactions between science, technology and society as well as technology assessment and research into the development and implementation of socially and environmentally sound technologies. Deadline for Application: December 31, 2006 - one area of research funding is "gender - technology - environment".

The ESF is pleased to announce a Call for Proposals for new Research Networking Programmes. Deadline: 30 October 2006; 17.00hrs CET An ESF Research Networking Programme is a networking activity bringing together nationally funded research activities for four to five years, to address a major scientific issue or a science-driven topic of research infrastructure, at the European level with the aim of advancing the frontiers of science.

Girls in Science research proposal partner search

Partners are sought for a research project aiming to encourage girls into science at high schools, to identify and create models of gender mainstreaming for teachers to apply to their curriculum.
